More of Our Ministry Team: Brendan
Brendan Leighton is our Assistant Minister.
What's the best thing about your role?
God promises he will complete the work in all of us. However, in his grace and mercy, he allows us to be part of that work. Serving in Panania Anglican is my privilege to be part of what God is doing here in each and every one of us. I love the opportunity to encourage, challenge, and see people develop more, as well as growing in understanding of who God is and who they/we are. I get to do that full time and that is the best thing.
What's helping to keep you sane during lockdown?
In the small moments, it’s the gifts God has given us all. Little things like walking for a coffee, taking Lily to the park, reading, video games, tv shows/movies, etc. But all these things lose their shine after they are the only things to do. In those moments I need to be reminded of the big picture, where my future and my home lies. In Christ.
Favourite food?
I love all kinds of foods, but have a particular weakness for anything pastry.
Favourite moment with your daughter Lily?
Every morning I take Lily for 2 hours to let Ale get some peace and sleep while Lily and I spend the morning playing, having breakfast, cuddling in a blanket and reading her some books. A great start to the day, and that is saying something because I am not a morning person.
How do you like to spend your spare time?
I am a nerd, or maybe a geek? Whichever one knows way too much about sci-fi or fantasy. I read books, I watch shows, I play video games. I’ve gone outside a few times, but only on special occasions.
First thing you'll do post-lockdown?
Sit in a cafe with a coffee and a slice of banana bread and read something.
Favourite book (can't say the bible)?
I love reading for leisure(Although I go through on and off phases of reading), and while I have read a lot of authors I do believe one of the greatest authors of modern fantasy writing is Brandon Sanderson, I would recommend every single one of his books. But my favourite would be ‘The Way of Kings’ I don’t want to give any spoilers so I won’t say why.
Favourite family tradition?
We just locked in a new tradition for our anniversary, cooking wagyu steaks on a charcoal BBQ. It was glorious. We agreed halfway through the steaks to do it again next year.
